2019-2020 is about

CONNECTION

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

For the upcoming youth year, the leadership team has chosen to theme the year around creating and maintaining connection!

We're encouraging connection in 4 main areas:

1) Within the SPY group

2) Between the youth and the SPLC congregation

3) Between SPY and other youth groups; and

4) Between our individual youth and their faith

There are plenty of studies out there about the importance of belonging, not only to our youth, but also as human beings. This is part of the reason we've chosen to focus our events and our activities on building connections and relationships.

To us, that means more than making youth feel welcome in our church. Connection goes beyond the walls of SPLC, into our communities, our fellow youth groups, and the much bigger body of the church.

  • Keeping all monthly youth events in house;

  • Reflecting and modifying fundraising efforts to avoid fatigue;

  • Focusing on low pressure events to encourage taking a break, and talking to fellow youth;

  • Encouraging the use of the youth space (did you know we have a youth room??) by updating it to be a warm and welcome environment; and

  • Making events enjoyable and accessible for the youth AND their friends.

How are we going to do this? By carefully crafting our year and taking it back to basics.
